Another Craigslist Transformation...

So I'm officially addicted to the craigslist free section!! I try to check it a couple of times as week just to see if there's anything worth grabbing--it's amazing how fast stuff goes on there!  It's so fun to reimagine forgotten pieces.  I've picked up 3 chairs the past few weeks and these are 2 of them! So this is what we started with...

So I originally thought I might be able to save the cushions, etc...boy was I wrong!  I also forgot to take a picture of them before I started DIYing--so anyway...I started by painting them to get an idea of what I wanted to do with them, it is amazing what a little paint will do!
My husband (I'm starting to rope him in on my crazy ideas!) and I went to pick out new foam (after we discovered the horrible pet odor we couldn't get rid of...Eek!  I guess you get what you pay for!) and fabric as well as piping.  I'm pretty sure I'm a fairly terrible reupholsterer, but I will post a tutorial of how I did it soon!

We picked a big floral print so that it wasn't too busy but made a statement.  We added a pop of color with the piping and accessories (it was looking a little too monochromatic)

Can I just say how hard it is to paint cane?!  Oh my goodness...anyone looking to re-do cane chairs, I would suggest spray paint...it took 3 coats to make it mostly even...I love the way they turned out though!

I used the same coffee table idea as in the guest room (here) with some more of the boxes I also picked up for free on craigslist (seriously, I'm obsessed!)

Well, what do you think of our new chairs?!  What free craigslist treasures have you found?!

  1. What a difference Blythe - I love the pretty fabric you used too. From this end it looks like you did an awesome job with the upholstery.
